02 Aug Coin “Bead” Pendants!
Historically, southwestern (Navajo) silversmiths would make beads from materials they had access to, including coins. Coin beads are formed by doming (by hand) two coins and then soldering them together. These types of coin beads were most frequently made with silver dimes (barber or mercury) and were/are called Navajo pearls. One of our local jewelry artists makes dime beads, and for “fun” wanted to see if they could use the same technique on silver quarters and half dollars. Given that quarters and half dollars are thicker than dimes, this was not an easy task. These pendants are the amazing results of their experiment. We have one barber quarter pendant & one barber half dollar pendant, each use .999 fine and .925 sterling silver to create the pendant. These are most certainly unique and may be one-of-a-kind, as the jeweler said once was enough 😆! #morethanakiss #localjewelryartist #barbercoinbeads #barberquarter #barberhalfdollar
